1 Thessalonians

The people of God face a dilemma. They must live as if they are in heaven, under the reign of the King, yet they remain on an earth still marred by sin and Satan's sway. As a church, the Thessalonians were newly brought into that tension when Paul the apostle wrote to them. They had discarded their idols and were living in light of the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Paul reminded them of Jesus' return, and how they ought to live in this waiting period, the in-between time. For Jesus' kingdom has come and is yet to come. And the church at all times needs to be reminded of how to live before our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing he is coming again soon. We are still the waiting church, seeking to walk worthy of Christ.
